“Time, to whom do you belong?”: An awakening Poem by Somoy Shafi for Gaza and Palestine

by | Nov 10, 2023 | Gaza Grieves, Wall Of Woe

Time, to whom do you belong

Time, to whom do you belong?

East, you belong to them

North, you belong to them

West, you belong to those Mediterranean guests

Southeast or South, about your standing I doubt

Time, to whom do you belong?

To whom do you belong?

The sky isn’t ours

Moonlight is here very miser

Plenty is our opposite party

Woe is our only wealth

The air was never in our favor

With blood and bones, we are still human

Apart from this, you can call us debris

We are havocs; we are chaos

With our wreckage, annihilation forms

Through our bloodshed, deserts find fountains

With the heap of our dead bodies, brutality builds mountains

Our skeletons are as smooth as strong

Time, to whom do you belong?

To whom do you belong?

The taste of sovereignty and map we never had

A piece of life

Here it is so cheap and mostly free

Yet to exist we need to compromise with the beasts

Our death here is a daily feast

Who will we accuse?

In the human market we are toxic and refuse

Even in the gates of heaven, for us there is no grant

Because of this depravation, we became skilled in repression

The stars in the skies laugh at us

To the dews of dawn, we are clown

The dust doesn’t treat us as human throng

Time, to whom do you belong?

To whom do you belong?
